What Is Tongits Go?
Tongits — also spelled "Tong-Its" — is a three-player card game that originated in Ilocos Norte and spread like wildfire across the Philippines over the past few decades. It uses a standard 52-card deck and combines elements of rummy with strategic bluffing and hand management. If you've played it around the dining table with your family in Quezon City or at a friend's place in Cebu, you already know why it's so addictive.
Tongits Go is the online multiplayer version of that same game — but with a competitive layer added. At egames, Tongits Go is one of our most-played card games precisely because it's familiar to Filipino players of all ages. You're not learning something new and foreign. You're playing the game you already know, against real opponents from across the Philippines, with real money on the table.
The egames Tongits Go platform runs on fast, stable servers built for Philippine mobile connections. Whether you're on Globe, Smart, or connected to WiFi in a coffee shop in BGC, the game loads quickly and plays smoothly. You can fund your account via GCash or Maya in under a minute and jump straight into a table.
New to online Tongits? egames offers practice tables where you can play with virtual chips to get comfortable with the interface before committing real money. Highly recommended if you haven't played competitive Tongits Go before.
GCash and Maya deposits are instant. Minimum deposit ₱100. Withdrawals processed in as fast as 5 minutes.
How to Play Tongits Go
Three players, one deck, and a whole lot of strategy. Here's how a standard game plays out at egames Tongits Go tables.
Game Flow
The dealer receives 13 cards; the two other players receive 12 cards each. The remaining cards form the draw pile (stockpile).
On your turn, draw from the stockpile or pick up the discard pile's top card. Then discard one card face-up. Build melds (sets and sequences) in your hand.
Lay down groups of 3+ cards of the same rank (set) or 3+ consecutive cards of the same suit (sequence) to reduce your hand's point value.
Any player can call "Fight" to trigger a showdown. If a player empties their hand completely, they call "Tongits" and win outright. A player can also "Fold" when challenged — risking a point-based loss.
After the hand ends, remaining unmelded cards count against you. The player with the lowest total point value wins. At egames, cash prizes are credited to your wallet instantly.
Card Point Values
| Card | Point Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2 through 9 | Face value | Low-value, easy to meld |
| 10, J, Q, K | 10 points each | Dangerous to hold unmelded |
| Ace | 1 point | Lowest risk card to hold |
| Joker (if used) | Wild card | Substitutes any card in a meld |
Meld your high-point cards (10s, face cards) as early as possible. If someone calls Fight and you're still holding three Kings, that's 30 points working against you. Filipino veterans always prioritize getting rid of 10-point cards first.
Valid Tongits Combinations
Understanding what counts as a valid meld is the foundation of Tongits strategy. Here are all the hand combinations you can lay down at egames Tongits Go tables.
| Combination | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Set (Trio / Quartet) | Three or four cards of the same rank, regardless of suit. | 7♠ 7♥ 7♦ — or all four 7s |
| Sequence (Straight Flush) | Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. Minimum 3 cards. | 4♣ 5♣ 6♣ 7♣ |
| Secret Meld | A valid set or sequence held in hand, not yet laid down. Revealed only when calling Tongits or during a Fight showdown. | Held in hand until reveal |
| Extension (Sapaw) | Adding cards to an already-laid meld (your own or an opponent's) to reduce your hand further. | Adding 8♣ to 4♣ 5♣ 6♣ 7♣ |
| Tongits (Empty Hand) | Melding all cards completely — the automatic win condition. No showdown needed; the round ends immediately. | Zero cards remaining in hand |

Tongits Go Strategy Tips
Winning Habits
- Prioritize melding high-value cards first. Face cards and 10s are 10 points each. Getting rid of even two of them early dramatically improves your Fight showdown position.
- Watch your opponents' discards. If Player 2 keeps discarding 5s, they're unlikely to complete a sequence involving 5s. Use that information to decide which cards to keep or pass.
- Don't rush to call Fight. Only call Fight when you're confident you have the lowest point total. A miscalculated Fight where you lose costs you more than a cautious fold.
- Keep your Sapaw (extension) options open. A card that extends an existing meld on the table is almost always better than discarding it — even if it's not your meld.
- Build two partial melds simultaneously. Working on two melds at once makes your hand less predictable and gives you more flexibility when the stockpile runs low.
Common Mistakes
- Holding onto partial sequences too long. If the cards you need aren't showing up after several draws, break up the partial meld and pivot. Stubbornness costs points.
- Discarding cards the opponent needs. Never discard without scanning what's already on the table. If your opponent just laid down 4♣ 5♣ 6♣, don't throw a 7♣.
- Ignoring the stockpile count. When the draw pile is nearly empty, the game ends automatically. If you're behind on melding, start playing defensively early.
- Calling Tongits too early. Don't declare an empty hand if you're about to be challenged — make sure you genuinely have zero unmelded cards before calling it.
- Playing on tilt after a bad round. Moving up buy-in levels after a loss to chase your money back is one of the fastest ways to drain your egames wallet. Stick to your session budget.
Pro tip from veteran Filipino players: The best Tongits players in Manila's underground card rooms will tell you the same thing — patience beats aggression. Let opponents burn their draw turns on weak cards while you quietly build your hand. Strike when you're sure, not when you're hopeful.
